Expectations
Tryout Expectations
We wish to develop great relationships with you all, but a professional enviornment is expected during the tryout procedures to safeguard the integrity of our tryouts.
Typical acceptable and unacceptable interactions with team members are listed below...
• Acceptable interactions
• Practicing with team members for tryout preparation
• Visiting with team members if found at Harry's
• Pre-existing relationships with a team member
• Unacceptable interactions
• Hitting on team members
• Inappropriate physical contact with team members
• Romantic relationships with team memebers
Any relationship existing between a tryout individual and a team member must be disclosed to the AW Officer Team.
You are not on the team (hopefully "YET!"), but during the tryout process you could be recognized as an Aggie Wrangler tryout couple. This means that you now carry a higher level of reputational burden than before you were a tryout couple. We wish to keep our reputation in high regards, and if you make the team you would want the same thing!
During the tryout process (defined here as the time between the first mock tryout and the day of tryouts) we ask you to follow the below considerations...
• No underage drinking at Harry's
• Refrain from practicing Jitterbug at Harry's (this is a policy we have for our members, as we do not want to harm any other dancers around us)
• Billigerent behavior is unacceptable in a public enviornment

•
We want you to be as prepared as you can be for tryouts, so we recommend you do the following to help you be ready!
• Take the four lessons we offer during the year (CW 1 & 2, Jitt 1 & 2)
• Take the advanced lessons for more specialized help for tryouts
• Ask team members and alumni for help on tryout advice and dancing technique (from turns to floor dancing to your jitterbug routine)
• Ask fellow tryout couples to practice with you!
Leave time for you and your partner to practice ALONE, without other tryout couples or team members/alumni. Asking for help is a great way to get to know other people and get fresh sets of eyes, but, in the end, you and your partner are going to need to execute on your own for tryouts.

To help you prepare for tryouts, we encourage you to use The Bootstack whenever you practice with a current team member! Please follow the general guidelines below for professional conduct while occupying The Bootstack.
• If you would like to practice with a team member, give them a few days notice so they can make sure The Bootstack is available!
• Before practicing at The Bootstack at the beginning of the season, please fill out our Bootstack Occupant waiver found HERE. (this only needs to be filled out once per season)
• Please refrain from entering the back room, unless explicitly asked to enter by a current team member.
• Please refrain from interacting with the A/V system, as the current team member knows the proper way to use it to ensure it lasts on our team for generations.

Advice
Tryout Advice
We want the best from you that you can give the team, but that means you must first be yourself. There may be some other tips for tryouts that are meant to help you grown into a potential productive member of the team and may push your comfort zone, but please remember that you are here to add your unique value to the team!

If you are struggling on something, please ask for help! If you cannot do a clockwise polka turn smoothly in the beginning, do not keep running in circles if it's not working out! We will not be looking at how you could not do a turn in the beginning. What would be worse would be waiting until tryout day and not having strong dance fundamentals. We are here to help you develop into better dancers.

If you are nervous interacting with team members, what better way to break the ice than dancing with them. Even if you are not confident with your dancing fundamentals yet, the interaction helps us get to know you better, and shows great initiative on your part! On the team, you will be in front of a lot of people and may be pushed out of your comfort zone. Things like this can help prepare you for those situations.
There is too much of a good thing in this regard, so be aware and think if you are being too pushy with members. We are here for you and want to meet you! But we are also college students and like to relax sometimes as well. Also, keep in mind the expectations of professional conduct with team members

On this playlist,(https://open.spotify.com/user/aggiewranglers) we have a good selection of polka songs, two-step songs, jitterbug songs, and even some waltz! We sometimes use this playlist for lessons, but this is also a great resource for preparing for tryouts.
Use this in your practicing to get used to the type of songs that will be used during your tryout.
• The floor dancing songs will be slower, and the jitterbug song may be anything from 2 ½ minutes to 4 ½ minutes.
• The songs will always be unknown right up until tryouts, and will change year to year.
